Wax Envy – Episode 14 (Autobiography)

Tonight I have a little autobiography session for you. Obviously, because of the pandemic quarantine, I can’t have any guests over or go to anyone’s place. But through the magic of virtual meeting software I’ll have a few of my best buds joining me for some very colourful commentary later in the show. Featuring Brad Giefert, Darryl Stevenson, Colin Swanston, and Graeme Danko. Some great tunes and crazy stories, don’t miss it!

Wax Envy – Episode 13 (Paul Butler)

I visited Winnipeg/Toronto based artist Paul Butler in his studio in Toronto. It took some doing but we finally managed to get together for a great session. It is a wild emotional ride through a few low-key singer/songwriter tunes on up to some celebratory world music hitting all the stops in between. I hope you enjoy it in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic. Stay home, wash your hands, and enjoy some great music.

Wax Envy – Episode 12 (Darryl Stevenson)

I went to visit my old friend Darryl Stevenson in Guelph, Ontario. We spent a chill Saturday afternoon thumbing through his vinyl collection and discussing his selections. An eclectic session featuring Lou Donaldson, Fela Kuti, Harry Nilsson, The Talking Heads and much, much more. Hope you enjoy it, its quite a trip!

Wax Envy – Episode 11 (Tanya Cunnington and Bewabon Shilling)

I went up north to visit two of my oldest friends, artists and painters, Bewabon Shilling and Tanya Cunnington. We did some catching up, got into some great music, and way too many drinks! It was a great session with my brother Brad Giefert joining us for colour commentary and many, many laughs. It was a cozy session by the fire at the amazing Arthur Shilling Studio in Rama, Ontario. Such a good time with great friends. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Wax Envy – Episode 10 (Carolyn Taylor and Pete Crighton)

Episode 10!!! A very special guest for a very special episode. Carolyn Taylor from The Baroness von Sketch Show stopped by with her good friend Pete Crighton for a great listening session! We had some laughs, a few beers and a great dive into Carolyn’s vinyl collection. A wide range of music from Tom Tom Club to Yoko Ono to Arlo Guthrie and many more in between. It was a great ride! Don’t miss it!

Wax Envy – Episode 9 (Andrew Collins and Lisa Conway)

Happy New Year!! Martie is back with his good friends Andrew Collins (AMC Gremlin) and Lisa Conway (L CON) for an amazing musical ride. He stopped by their place in Guelph, Ontario and was treated to an eclectic assortment of music from their vinyl collections. Also, featuring a track from L CON’s new LP and a sneak peak at AMC Gremlin’s upcoming album. Don’t miss it!

Wax Envy – Episode 7 (Jerry Leger)

Martie and Rob sit down with singer, songwriter, troubadour, Jerry Leger on a rainy day in the basement. Jerry shares a few songs from his incredible new album, Time Out For Tomorrow, along with a selection of his favorite tunes, from Irma Thomas to Hank Williams and everything in between. A stacked show, not to be missed.

Wax Envy – Episode 6 (Bill Clarke)

My friend – curator, arts writer, french horn player – Bill Clark came by with a crate full of records. We manged to get through 24 of them… An amazing ride through rock, jazz, classic rhythm and blues, a sprinkle of country, 70s glam, and some very weird stuff as well. It was a fun one. Thanks as always to Rob Nicholls for the colour commentary.

Wax Envy – Episode 5 (Paul Lawton)

Musician, Producer, Professor, Paul Lawton stops by the basement to dive deep into the Canadian underground punk, garage, psych scene starting in 1969 and working our way up to 2019. What a great session! All recorded directly from rare 7″ vinyl pressings. Not to be missed! Colour commentary provided by Wax Envy veteran Rob Nicholls.
